IOTA, 4O1OTA M/S, EU-163

Hello everybody,

this year we decided to operate the IOTA contest from an island.
After some investigations and we selected Sveti Nicola (EU-163) in
Montenegro as our QTH. Hrle, 9A6XX and Marko, 9A8MM from the Pazin
Radio Klub were very enthusiastic and joined the team. Roberto,
IV3IYH, who had brought up the idea to go to Sveti Nicola could
unfortunately not join the team.

The Munich operators started early on Wednesday and we met with our
Croatian team on Thursday in the morning near Vodice. On Thursday
evening we arrived in Montenegro and met with Ranko, 4O3A for a
coffee. Finally we arrived at Budva around 11 p.m.

On Friday we met with our local contact and visited our QTH for the
first time. Sveti Nicola is a nice island but unfortunately our QTH
was very close to the northern end of the island and the terrain was
raising quickly to the south. Also the we were blocked in the
northern direction by the high mountains on the mainland.

We got back to the mainland to take our equipment and arrived back on
the island around noon. We directly started to set up the antennas
and on Friday evening when the last boat left the island the
spiderbeam the additional dipoles for 15m and 20m as well as the
vertical for 40m was up. We returned to the island on Saturday
morning to finish the setup and were ready about 1 hour before the
contest started.

The contest itself was funny and we enjoyed the pileups on the
running station. Unfortunately it was very hard to get through the
pileups of other island stations with our multiplier station. This
resulted in a low number of multipliers in the end. After the contest
finished we took down everything and got off the island in the
evening.

Altogether it was a very nice and funny IOTA-DX-Pedition and we are
already thinking of where to go next ;-)
